RIPS - Hulin Wu - Integrating Quantitative and Computational Sciences for Immunology and Virology Research

In this new era of high technologies, many new quantitative and computational sciences have evolved from various disciplines to become major tools for biomedical research. These include biostatistics, biomathematics, bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, computational biology, mathematical biology and theoretical biology, biophysics, and bioengineering. In this talk, I will give an overview on how to use these quantitative and computational sciences to support immunology and virology research.

In particular, I will discuss why it is beneficial for immunologists/virologists to efficient use these quantitative tools in their research and how to collaborate with quantitative scientists to achieve their research goals.

My talk will include

1) Mathematical modeling of biological processes and experiments: simulations and predictions

2) Statistical estimation and data analysis for biomedical experimental data: efficiently use your data

3) Computational tools and software packages

4) Data management tools

Finally I will give a brief introduction to the lecture series given by quantitative investigators from our Center for Biodefense Immune Modeling in the Fall 2007 and Spring 2008.
